Is graphic design merely placing items together? What make a design better than another? I think you can be taught design concepts but in order to truly make tight designs you must a few qualities. You must be a detailed person that studies perfection. You must pay attention details. It is the minor details that will set you apart from average designers.
Graphic design is the series of images and words to convey information or to create a certain visual communication. Graphic design often refers to both the process by which the communication is created and the products which are generated. Graphic design involves everything around you. In any given day you will come into contact of the work of hundreds of designers work without much notice. Words and pictures have existed in a two dimensional world for millions of years. Today, graphic design has become so popular with the introduction of computer graphics. However everyone with a computer is not a graphic designer.
Uses of Graphics Design
Graphic design has applications in almost every area of graphic design and its various uses are as mentioned below:
It is used in education in making presentation by using graphs, charts and other visual enhancements.
In the entertainment area, it has got a distinctive place. You have seen in motion picture the way technology is being utilized. It is used in most of the movies and advertisement to make an impact on the mind of the prospect.
The use of graphic design is increasing day by day in website designing. You can see the creative work done by designer on various websites.
Graphic design has administrative applications. You have seen from the road sign to the layout of critical project of construction or other technical manuals designing is being used these days.
Role of Graphic Designer
The role of the graphic designer is very critical even in the age of computer generated graphics. The role of the graphic designer has always been to use words and pictures to convey information. But the main thing which matters a lot in designing is the creativity and the innovation of the graphic designer. The graphic designer is an artist directed toward a specific purpose.
The area of web design, which is the fastest growing area of graphic design, offers a good example. The graphic designer must understand the purpose of the website and should be able to meet the expectation of the client. To serve this purpose, graphic designer should be creative and logical enough.
The role of the graphic design has really not changed despite the tremendous advancement in technology. Inspite of the technology, graphics designer has to fully apply themselves in their work. Art is not something which technology can create. It’s something related to our mind and the reception of information.

There are many websites that advertise low prices and free graphics however I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. When I go to a website I assess the business and form an opinion based the quality of their website functionality and the graphics. Are they professional or do they look like they were created by a regular user. To me that would mean that they are trying to save money by skimping and allowing someone who thinks they are a designer to create their image for the world to see.
