What’s It Like To Become A New Website Designer – My Views

“Website Design in my opinion is a really interesting career to get in to, there are so many different things to learn and find out, all the different skills.
The main thing to start when you are learning to be a website designer, is the Html (HyperText Markup Language) and Css (Cascading Style Sheets) coding. You need to have a good knowledge of Html and Css coding, to be able to produce a good basic website, which is one of the many things I have been learning. This is so you know what brings a website together, it’s not just the design and how it looks, there is the developing side too, the coding. Before I took up this website designer course I didn’t really know anything about Css, or understand it. I knew some basic Html which I had learnt by myself with help from the internet, and also some at collage. But Css was really hard for me to take in. I have now finally learnt some, and I can now create basic websites, in Html and Css.”
“A new Website Designer like myself will have many things to learn, one of the things I have been learning at Moodey IT Ltd is, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) making sure the websites that the company have built have been optimized by going on forums and blogs commenting, posting links in directory’s. It’s all about link building getting traffic back to your site.
Detail is another thing you need to have, check the coding every line really well, it’s not hard to miss something, then wonder why is the site not looking how you want it to, trust me, it is annoying lol. There are many useful sites and tools on the net to help you with web design. Also for website designers it’s great to make sure your site is validated by The W3C Markup Validation Service. I have been working on a site for my course, and I have managed to get the site validated, took me some time to go through the errors and fix them, most were simple things really but would not of know if I didn’t go and get it validated.”
“Designing - The design of your site is also very important. You need to know what colours you want to have on it, the layout of how it’s going to look, how many columns to put in. I was told it’s good to draw out a design of what you want your new website to look.
How many Pages you want your site to have
What’s going to go on them pages – the content
What pages are going to link to what
Also another good thing to do is draw out your design and layout in Adobe Photoshop, then you have the image file to go back on and change what you do not like, or add in other things such as buttons and icons.”
